PMZ 044 – Overloaded and Explode

After that, I stayed in the lab in order to tamper with the magic tool ( there was only a large blackboard here); I locked the door and then released the magic formula of the glasses so I can modify it.

Small letters appeared on the surface of the frame, and I copied them on the blackboard and stared at them.

I decided to ask Chris to let me use the blackboard. He didn’t mind; I realized this rather late, but he never use it at all, but for me, this blackboard is the perfect tool to write, analyze, and modify the formula.

“Let’s see, …this is the section where the function to make the clothes transparent is located, right? If we were to replace this with the monster’s body part, we wouldn’t need those numbers, would we?

But the monster’s body is magic itself, so if you replace the clothes with magic, you won’t be able to see the magic stones.”

I never thought this day would come in my life, a time when I would seriously consider the issue of replacing underwear with magic stones. You never know what will happen in life.

Setting the undies aside… what is magic stone anyway?

The simple answer would be a crystallization of magical power, also known as a magic core, and as soon as it’s taken out from the monster’s body, the monster’s power will diminish, then it melts into the air and disappears.

That’s right. It’s a crystallization.

If it’s a crystallization, that would mean that the magic power in that area is denser than the surrounding areas?

If that’s the case, rather than looking at the magic stone, how about setting it up to see the density of the magic power?

It might also be interesting to set the color according to the attribute of magic power.

While raising the hurdle for myself with an unnecessary idea, I first set the total amount of magic power of the individual as 1, and then I divided it into 10 levels, specifying that it should glow according to its density, and constructed a formula based on that idea.

I look at the blackboard from a distance. There are several lines of formulas lined up in a row.

This… not going to fit into that glasses frame.

I let my mind wander for a while as I hit an unexpected wall.

In the end, I reduced the number of characters by reducing the illumination intensity from ten levels to five and solved the problem by writing on the lens instead of the frame.

Once it’ s set in place, the letters will be invisible, and I’ll work just fine.

I fixed the formula on the glasses and tried them on immediately.

I could feel that my magic power is slightly drained by the glasses, so at least I could say that it works. However, there are no monsters in our house, and the only way to verify if it’s working properly is to use it on a monster.

And I was afraid to offend people if I take a look at their magic power without permission, so first, I test it on myself.

I confirmed that the light was gradually getting stronger when I look closer to my abdomen, and I made a small gut pose.

I did it… I’ve succeeded!

If there were 10 levels of ambiance, I’m sure it would look better, but I don’t have enough space to write it down.

Oh, I forgot to give color to each attribute.

It cannot be helped; I forced myself to write the attribute color settings formula in insanely small letters on the glasses’ frame and linked them to the earlier formula.

It’s done.

“[Fix…]”

The moment I cast the magic of fixation on the formula, the glasses cracked and exploded with a popping sound.

Ack…

Apparently, the material couldn’t handle it.

I looked at the shattered glasses in a daze for a while and cleaned up the mess while feeling depressed.

I failed to modify the glasses.

I went to apologize to Brother Chris for breaking them (though they were a confiscated item), and he said, “No, no, I don’t know a-a-about such g—g-glasses! Eh? you break them? it’s probably because they were made of a material that’s weak against magic, so they can only give one effect at most. Anyway, I don’t remember such thing.”

He easily forgives me.

I’ll get you a new one next time—a normal one.

Anyway… I already told Hayato that I would make something useful out of it, and I was hoping to make some changes to it today, but it turned out to be impossible. Sorry.

“Hayato…, how are your studies going?”

“Hmm, I think it’s about halfway through second year right now.”

“Didn’t you look at the first-year material just now?”

“Yeah. I finished it, so I’m looking at the second-year material right now.”

“I see. At this rate, it looks like you’ll be able to graduate in about an hour.”

“I hope so …by the way, were you able to modify those glasses?”

“I failed. I think I overloaded them and they exploded.”

“Exploded? are you okay?”

“I’m fine.”

I nodded, and he slumped back in his chair with a relieved look on his face.

“I’m glad. … I see. Those glasses are broken.”

“I’m sorry. It’s a shame. I wish I could have shown them to you sooner.”

“Show me what?”

“Still a secret.”

Since the formula is ready, I only need to find a pair of glasses made of a material that is a little more resistant to magic power, and then I should be able to complete it right away. But if I’m going to do this, I want to wear a pair of glasses that look a little bit cuter, so I’m going to find something I like and try again.

“…Hmm? What’s wrong with you? Your face is red.”

“Yes, … it’s nothing. Alice, I’m sorry.”

“Why are you apologizing?”

“For a lot of things…”

Hayato covered his face with his textbook, vaguely clouding his words.

I’m not sure why, but there’s no need for him to apologize. In fact, that gesture is so cute I’d forgive anything.

So, tell me, why are you apologizing?

This is a story from half a month before Hayato gets the name of Riddil.

Tonight is the new moon. Soon the night will come.

TL note:

The last paragraph seems odd? Don’t blame me, it’s literally written like that. Was its premonition? I don’t think so; I think the author is feeling a bit melancholic when she wrote this.
